Recommitted–Twice Over

Weight Loss… it’s a difficult road. If you are overweight you know exactly how hard it is.

If you’re one of my usual readers you know I have struggled for years. You have read my unfinished story. The saga continues…

It has been a few months since I have worked out. I’ve become lazy and more sedentary. (not good!)  I have known just by the way I feel that I have been gaining weight and needed to do something about it. I’ve been angry with myself. I’ve felt discouraged because I hadn’t seen any results when I had been working at it after having been so sick. (My family and I had had terrible colds, lasting many weeks, thrice over the past 2 years).

For the past couple weeks I’ve sat knowing I need to change my habits and get back into my fitness routines, yet at the same time I was thinking, “What can I do? How can I change this?” Then I remembered some wise words I had spoken to others–JUST MOVE!

Yeah, I was taking my own medicine.

This week I jumped off the self-pity train, recommitted myself, and got back on the Fitness Wagon. For the past 2 days I have been kicking my own behind. Do I hurt? Oh yeah! But I’m not going to let that stop me. It’s a good pain.

This morning I did a weigh-in. I didn’t want to do it, but I knew I had to. I was shocked. I knew I had gained, but it was more than I thought I had.

I’m glad that I made the choice to do better for myself. Not only that, I have a family that needs me too.

With all of that said, last week I recommitted my life to Christ. I had not walked away from Him, I just wasn’t as serious in my relationship with God as I used to be.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Maybe you’ve been struggling with losing weight or to break a bad habit. Or maybe you, too, haven’t been totally committed in your relationship with God.
Don’t be dismayed. Recommit!
Smile and hold your head up high. You can do it this time! If you happen to fall along the way, get up and keep going.
You only fail if you quit.
Now I’m off to plan my workout for today.
Much love and God bless you. ❤
Homemade Pico de Gallo
My family and I LOVE Mexican food, especially tacos; homemade tacos. There are so many varieties and toppings to put on them. They are so delicious, that we enjoy them at least once or twice a month.
Back while I was in college, I used to work at a Mexican fast food restaurant. (I’m not naming names, but I’m sure you’ll figure it out). At least one of their items had pico de gallo in it, and I loved it! I had never eaten cilantro or green chilies before, until I started working (and eating) there.
Several weeks ago we ordered out from the local restaurant, as I was craving that yummy, spicy sauce. Unfortunately the restaurant failed my expectations. Our order was a mess. Food was not wrapped correctly and was spilling out, lids were not completely locked on containers, etc. It looked like it was just thrown together in the bag. I was very disappointed. I decided, after sending a review to the corporate office, that we would not be ordering out from this restaurant again.
Yesterday I was writing out the grocery list and included everything we needed to make tacos. I got to thinking about that tasty Pico de Gallo sauce and my mouth began to water. I had an idea of what went in it from when I had made it during my work days back in college, however, I decided to do a little investigating just to be sure.
Last night we made tacos, and they were, undoubtedly, the best tacos we’ve ever made. My daughter & I were the only ones to use my new recipe since dear hubby and son don’t like some of the ingredients. My daughter said, “It tastes better than **********’s!” (She’s 8 years old by the way).
Ok, I guess I’ve held you in suspense long enough… ENJOY!
CraftyChick’s Homemade Pico de Gallo
makes about 4 cups
homemade20pico20de20gallo_zpsgrdgwwes
2 large (firm) tomatoes, diced small
1 medium white onion, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 bunch fresh cilantro, chopped (use to your taste)
2 Tbsp lime juice (half a fresh lime)
2-3 Tbsp Green Chile Sauce
salt & pepper to taste
In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients, mixing well.
Store in air-tight container in the refrigerator.
It may become a bit juicy over-night, so stir and use as normal.
Last night we used it right away, but I recommend making it at least a day ahead so flavors can blend together. I used some again today in my salad at lunchtime. All I can say is… YUM!!
Forgive & Love
“Out of suffering come the strongest souls. God’s wounded often make his best soldiers.”
-Unknown
There may be times in our lives when we face undesirable circumstances, tragic events, or maybe a bully or two.
Our first reaction is usually to get angry, especially if it involves getting hurt by other people. We may be angry for a long time, but we can’t let that anger turn into bitterness or worse, hatred.
Below is a link to an amazing story about a woman who faced horrendous things in her life. Even though she faced life threatening circumstances and was mistreated by those around her, she still found a way to love people anyway.
Talk about grace and a great example of how we all should live.
Always Forgive and choose to Walk in Love
Lost and Found: Inspiration
Has there ever been a time when you felt inspired to write but there were just no words? You have many ideas, but none of them suited the sudden, urgent need to write? You just want to pen a motivational story or an inspirational quote and send it out into the world?
I experience bursts of inspiration like that on occasion and it drives me nuts! It’s like I’ve grabbed a pen, put it to paper to write and find that the ink has dried up. Not only that, but something has sucked the very life out of the pen so that it crumbles in my grasp.
Well, maybe I should explain a bit further…
I have a lot of ideas, not just for writing, but other creative outlets as well. Add in the usual life stresses, mixed with a few less-than-usual stresses… mental clutter? It’s like a log jam or a clogged drain. The flow is missing.
I experienced this very thing last night. I couldn’t sleep and I was feeling a little creative so I went online. Nothing fun on Facebook, so I logged into WP and started reading blog posts from my feed. One in particular, a poem, full of emotion…
Inspiration struck!
And just as fast as it came, it was gone.
Inspiration lost. (sigh)
I have read several articles and blog posts about writer’s block. I have written a few of my own. I have also read about different techniques, tips and tricks that people use to help ward it off. But I have yet to try them. Why? I don’t really know.
Here are some tips I’ve read about and should probably try:
1) Do Freewriting. Write every day for 10-15 minutes. No matter what comes to mind, just write and get it all out on paper. Eventually you may get some ideas stemming from those writings.
2) Step away from your writing and do anything that’s creative. Paint pictures, write poetry, design images in Photoshop, make a scrapbook or collage, or build something in the garage (wood or metal working, or cars). Work on another creative project for a few hours or days and then go back to writing.
3) Move your body. Exercise, yoga, dance, Tai Chi. This may sound funny, but when you get your body into flow, your mind follows.
4) Eliminate distractions. (Yeah, right! Come to my house for a day or two. This is NOT an invitation by the way). Turn off the phone and unplug from the internet. Clean up your work space. A cluttered desk puts the mind in a state of confusion. Carve out some time in your schedule just for writing. Ask loved ones to honor your space so you can write without interruptions, or write when everyone in the house is sleeping. Giving yourself time and space to be in solitude is important to staying focused.
There are several other tactics that you can find on Google or whatever search engine tickles your fancy.
Smoking or Non-Smoking?
This world has gone crazy… and we haven’t seen INSANE yet.
What do you mean? What are you saying?
Strange Weather. Natural Disaster. Corruption. Lies. Deception.
Crooked Government. Hatred. Persecution. Murder.
These things  are happening NOW. And they are going to get worse.
I can say this without a doubt in my mind: we are in the Biblical End Times.
“As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age? Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
All these are the beginning of birth pains.
Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” Matthew 24:3-14
Now I’m not saying the world will end tomorrow, next week, or even next year. What I am saying is the day of Salvation and true repentance is here.
“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.” Matthew 24:36
Do you know where you will spend eternity?
Have you accepted Christ as your Savior? Or have you ignored Him calling out to you?
It is ultimately your choice.
If you don’t make a choice, you have still made one…
God loves YOU. He doesn’t want anyone to perish.
Hell was not created for people, but for Satan and his demons. But the truth is, those who reject salvation will perish.
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.”  Matthew 7:21-23
God sent His Son Jesus into the world to to bring salvation. It is a gift for all.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.”  John 3:16-17
Jesus is our ONLY hope of going to Heaven, there is no other way.
“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
If you would like heaven to be your eternal home, and would like to accept Christ as your Savior, it’s as simple as saying this prayer**:
Dear God in heaven, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I acknowledge to You that I am a sinner, and I am sorry for my sins and the life that I have lived; I need your forgiveness.
I believe that your only begotten Son Jesus Christ shed His precious blood on the cross at Calvary and died for my sins, and I am now willing to turn from my sin.
You said in Your Holy Word, Romans 10:9 that if we confess the Lord our God and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, we shall be saved.
Right now I confess Jesus as the Lord of my soul. With my heart, I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Savior and according to His Word, right now I am saved.
Thank you Jesus for your unlimited grace which has saved me from my sins. I thank you Jesus that your grace never leads to license, but rather it always leads to repentance. Therefore Lord Jesus transform my life so that I may bring glory and honor to you alone and not to myself.
Thank you Jesus for dying for me and giving me eternal life.
Amen.
World’s First Valentine
Valentine’s Day… a day to show those you love how much you love them. But in all honesty I think every day should be Valentine’s Day.
No I don’t mean get me cards and candy. Don’t make me breakfast in bed or a gourmet dinner, although that would be nice. I mean the part about showing those you care about how much you love them.
So when did Valentine’s Day first begin?
As an official holiday? I’m not certain. But I do know that the very FIRST Valentine’s Day happened a very long time ago.
God sent the first valentine’s gift. And it’s a gift, not just for Jewish, or Christians, but for every person. It’s a gift for you and for me. And it’s available to you every day, not just on a holiday.
The World’s First Valentine
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, and whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
It doesn’t matter what you’ve said or what you’ve done, God loves you. Don’t wait until your life is ‘perfect’; it won’t happen. God wants you to come to Him as you are.
Time is short and Jesus is coming again soon.
Are you ready?
The Farmer’s Almanac and the Weather
I don’t often put my trust in the men and women who predict or forecast the weather, especially winter storms. In years past, the Farmer’s Almanac was usually pretty darn accurate. So when I heard that they were calling for colder and snowier weather for my area of the country this winter, I was pretty happy. (We haven’t seen much snow for the past few winters).
Since mid-November we have gotten a few storms, but they were nothing to sneeze at. An inch or two, a dusting…
“COME ON!! WHERE’S THE SNOW?!?!”, I thought.
Several winter storms later, some that never even reached the East Coast, here comes Winter Storm Iola. They started saying there’s a HUGE Nor’easter on the way with the potential of upwards of 8″ of the fluffy white stuff. We were ecstatic!
“YES! We’re finally going to get some snow!!”
For the last 3 or 4 days we’ve kept our eyes on The Weather Channel–still calling for loads of snow. We’ve also been keeping an eye on our weather app: Accuweather. According to the app it has flip-flopped from 1-3 inches to 4-8 inches. Then earlier this morning it said 1 to 3 inches possible with a trace of ice accumulating.
SAY WHAT?!?! Are you KIDDING me?!
This is EXACTLY why I don’t put my full trust in meteorologists or Punxsutawney Phil.
I do enjoy some shows and a few personalities that work at The Weather Channel, but I have always said, “They’re from Georgia. They couldn’t forecast themselves out of a wet paper bag.”
