The Farmer’s Almanac and the Weather

I don’t often put my trust in the men and women who predict or forecast the weather, especially winter storms. In years past, the Farmer’s Almanac was usually pretty darn accurate. So when I heard that they were calling for colder and snowier weather for my area of the country this winter, I was pretty happy. (We haven’t seen much snow for the past few winters).

Since mid-November we have gotten a few storms, but they were nothing to sneeze at. An inch or two, a dusting…

“COME ON!! WHERE’S THE SNOW?!?!”, I thought.

Several winter storms later, some that never even reached the East Coast, here comes Winter Storm Iola. They started saying there’s a HUGE Nor’easter on the way with the potential of upwards of 8″ of the fluffy white stuff. We were ecstatic!

“YES! We’re finally going to get some snow!!”

For the last 3 or 4 days we’ve kept our eyes on The Weather Channel–still calling for loads of snow. We’ve also been keeping an eye on our weather app: Accuweather. According to the app it has flip-flopped from 1-3 inches to 4-8 inches. Then earlier this morning it said 1 to 3 inches possible with a trace of ice accumulating.

SAY WHAT?!?! Are you KIDDING me?!

This is EXACTLY why I don’t put my full trust in meteorologists or Punxsutawney Phil.

I do enjoy some shows and a few personalities that work at The Weather Channel, but I have always said, “They’re from Georgia. They couldn’t forecast themselves out of a wet paper bag.”

Holiday Weight Maintenance

Between October and December many people find it difficult to maintain &/or lose weight, however, it IS possible.
If you think about it, there really is no difference in HOW it’s done. It’s still all about what you eat, how much, and exercising.
PORTION CONTROL & SELF-CONTROL are most of the problem.
How many people do you know who binge and over eat during holiday festivities?
I for one am guilty of doing it in past years, BUT…
this year I am challenging myself to have more self-control so that THIS doesn’t happen:

Also, remember to drink plenty of water.
HINT: Water can HELP with weight loss.
Drink a glass (or two) of water before sitting down to dinner.

[NaBloPoMo 2014] Weekend Hiatus

Dear Readers,

I regret to inform you that I will be taking a break over the weekend. I’m still not feeling well. The chest congestion and coughing don’t want to relinquish their grasp on my lungs. That’s bad news for an asthmatic.
I know stress can effect the way the immune system works, so that is a potential issue as well.

I have been doing all I can think of, to fight off whatever this junk is. Taking vitamin C, in supplement and juice form; eating TONS of Garlic (sorry vampire friends) and chicken soup; OTC medications. So I’m hoping to be closer to normal by Monday.

P.S. Vampire friends, don’t take it personally that I’m eating garlic. Just think of it as my way of keeping you from getting whatever this is.  😀

NaBloPoMo 2014 — Day 1

Today is a free-writing day if you are following blogher’s NaBloPoMo 2014.

NaBloPoMo is an interesting acronym. And I have to admit, just thinking about it makes me laugh. Even though I know what it is, it comes out wrong in my mind.

Nah-Bloe-Poe-Moe is what I believe to be the correct pronunciation. However, when I quickly read over it, my mind thinks Nah-Bloe-Puh-Blah-No and I have no idea why. Unless it’s because I enjoy cooking and poblano peppers are something that have been used several times on cooking shows that I’ve watched. Isn’t it strange how our minds work sometimes?
